How to Buy Appropriate Computer Memory
When we speak of buying computer memory for our desktop or laptop, we usually refer to the purchase of random access memory, otherwise referred to as RAM, which is the main computing memory of a computer. The most obvious thing is to make sure that you know why you need it for, and how much you are willing to pay for it, just like any other purchase you make, so that you do not pay a fortune to buy something that is way beyond your requirements or make a seemingly cheap deal only to find that the RAM you purchased is not serving your purpose. But there are also a few technical considerations that should dictate your choice of RAM.
Where to use the memory
You need to first make sure whether you are purchasing the computer memory for using on a laptop or a desktop. The reason is that laptops usually require SO – DIMM type of Ram while a DIMM form factor is more compatible with a desktop.
How fast should it be
The particular computer or laptop that you own would dictate the kind of RAM that is compatible, in terms of speed of computing. Most systems nowadays require DDR2 or DDR3 types of RAM. Your choice of computer memory should also be governed by what kind of speeds you as a user might need. A person just checking and sending emails every weekend might not require the speeds of a professional journalist who needs to upload huge amounts of text, graphics and video within his deadlines.
How large should it be (and at what price!)
The storage capacity of the computer memory also depends on the type of user, although 2 GB and 4 GB are the usual capacities almost everyone goes for. But taking a huge storage space at higher cost and then leaving most of it empty is not a bright idea, and you could instead use the money in buying some other accessories.
If we keep these things in mind we can make a judicious purchase of computer memory which will give us good value for our money.
